An important part of our history, MentorMate launched its first mobile application - iQpakk - in 2001. We feel that iQpakk stands as a testament to our creativity, innovation, and dedication to remaining ahead of the curve. MentorMate was founded on an application that was ahead of its time - a mobile learning content management system that preceded the mobile movement. This principle of innovation and creativity is still one that we, as an organization, value to this day.
iQpakk is a software-based system enhancing learning on any platform
U.S. Patent No. 6,905,340.
right:challenge slowly increases the difficulty level of material over time. At certain intervals, the learner's comprehension of the material is tested. If material seems to be too challenging for the learner, right:challenge responds by decreasing difficulty. If material seems to be too easy, right:challenge responds by challenging the learner further. This means that the cognitive challenge is kept in the appropriate and ideal zone.
In order to retain information, the human brain must form a strong synaptic network. According to a Princeton University study, Synaptic ReentryReinforcement Based Network Model for Long-Term Memory Consolidation:
"...new rounds of synaptic modification triggered by memory reactivation...lead to...consolidation...of memory traces."
right:challenge works by inducing multiple memory traces rapidly, but automatically varying the semantic form of the question. An analogy would be forming a path in a forest. If only one person walks, there is not much of a path. If multiple people follow the same route, a path starts forming. In a similar way, right:challenge aims to assist in forming retention, then retention without the support of context, and finally, understanding of the interrelationships of the bits of knowledge acquired.
Fairview Hospital is Minnesota's largest hospital system, treating patients of many nationalities, some of which do not speak English. The Interpreters Office serves non-English speakers. By the very nature of their work, interpreters are constantly criss-crossing the large hospital campuses in Minnesota. Staying on top of training is paramount. MentorMate, in partnership with Century College, provides learning for interpreters on handheld computers using iQpakk.
A clinic with 150 employees, Axis MN faces the challenges of a distributed workforce serving disabled adult patients in their homes. There is a need for training as well as just-in-time performance aids (including video segments on handhelds). Care needs often materialize instantly and mapping employee skills to care needs is essential. iQpakk manages basic training in addition to matching employees' skills to patient needs to get the right care to the right person at the right time.
