Director of Software Development – Java

We are looking to hire a motivated individual with strong leadership potential, expert technical skills, and a desire to step into a key role in one of the biggest software engineering organizations in Europe. This is a unique career opportunity to become a Senior Leader and help grow our Java team while building upon 20 years of delivery excellence and collaborating with the most capable Technical Leadership Team in Bulgaria. This role is a blend of people management, technology, and business and reports to the Vice President of Operations. This position is a seat on the Senior Leadership Team of MentorMate.

Responsibilities

Organizational

  • Manage KPIs for the Java department
  • Manage strategic processes and initiatives within the department and the company aligned with MentorMate’s values and business goals
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team
  • Collaborate with the Delivery and Operations organization for ensuring company standards implementation
  • Ensure alignment between the team and the business
  • Responsible for financial investment requests and ROI
  • Accountable for department health

 

People 

  • Develop the team, understand their drivers, facilitate their career objectives
  • Accountable for budget and performance management
  • Observe, sustain and improve morale 
  • Motivate the team & set standards in terms of performance, attitude, results
  • Actively maintain healthy culture
  • Coach the Java management team

 

Hiring 

  • Аnalyze the business demand and communicatе it with the recruitment team
  • Lead the department hiring strategy
Requirements
  • Previous experience in a leadership or management role 
  • Ability to manage multiple streams of activity
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Delivery focused, self-motivated with a can-do attitude
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Knowledge or background in JAVA are NOT a requirement
