MentorMate Partners with Local Non-Profit The BrandLab MentorMate is proud to announce its newest partnership with The BrandLab, a non-profit dedicated to guiding and preparing students for creative careers. MentorMate is proud to announce its newest community partnership with The BrandLab, a non-profit dedicated to guiding and preparing students for careers in marketing and advertising. “Mentormate can help expose what jobs in the tech sector really mean. You don’t have to be a developer to succeed. Working in tech is a team sport — one that needs writers, designers, project managers, a sales team and developers.” Jay Miller, Chief Engagement Officer About BrandLab BrandLab became a non-profit in 2008 starting with a handful of students. Today, they serve nearly 600 students annually. Their programs include four parts: Classroom, Internship, Scholarship and Fearless. Each of these programs prepares students for a career in different ways. Classroom programs take place at local high schools that are 50% students of color and 50% of students receive free/reduced lunch. These 6-10 week programs are geared at giving students a preliminary professional education, including field trips, industry experts, practice RFPs and presentations. The Internship program is compiled of high school students who have completed the Classroom curriculum. 60-70 students are placed in agencies for a summer internship. While the first week includes “professional bootcamp,” the additional 7 weeks are hosted onsite at a marketing agency or within a corporation’s marketing department for 12-20 hours a week. The scholarship program was created to help students continue to grow and succeed during the college years. Current students are offered scholarships, connected with program alumni and mentors and can attend training and workshops to further their professional development. Fearless programs face diversity head on. This program tackles the tough conversations about diversity in the workplace and employee retention through workshops and bias training. How MentorMate Plans to Partner with BrandLab Looking forward, MentorMate plans to host members of the Internship program at our office in Minneapolis within the Marketing, Design and Sales teams. Staff also plans to speak in Classroom sessions about their career paths and how they got their feet in the door. For more on The BrandLab, visit their website.
