Shifting Gears to Deliver Faster

When the client first engaged MentorMate, it was to build the app from the ground up. Around the same time, they came into contact with a mental health startup that had an existing digital self-care app and clinician dashboard. It quickly became apparent that everyone was on the same page and that by acquiring the startup, our client could accelerate its timeline by about 18–24 months. MentorMate’s involvement in the project shifted from a project team to a hybrid staff augmentation team.

A Full-Stack Mental Health Solution

The app that our client acquired laid the foundation, but there was much to build to fulfill their vision of being the most accessible and effective behavioral health care solution in the world.
After an initial lift and shift, we got to work adding several new features to support new care avenues like coaching (1:1 chat, group video sessions) and therapy (video sessions).

 
One big piece of the work that we did on the app was around integration with health insurance policies. The company works to ensure that people are able to overcome that barrier and that as many people as possible have access through their insurance. Today, care through the app is covered by the health plans of more than 37 million American adults.

 
In addition to adding features, our Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE) has played an integral role in the client’s adoption of cloud computing — particularly around security and DevOps. We built out a CI/CD pipeline that containerized it’s entire server infrastructure, allowing automation during the deployment process.

It’s grown to over 3.4 million users worldwide, and boasts a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 72 and average app store rating of 4.8.

 
What’s more, its users don’t just say they feel better — their assessment scores in the app prove it. Seventy-seven percent of people are seeing dramatic improvement with anxiety, 85 percent with stress, and 90 percent with depression. With four types of support contained within one app, the app is truly a place to feel better, no matter where you are.
