I joined MentorMate in 2001. MentorMate was a very different company then. Founded by Björn Stansvik, it began as an idea. How would mobile technology revolutionize education? Björn came to my classroom at Eagan High School. I was sitting in U.S. History class and listened to his presentation about a Palm Pilot teaching application he built. As many of the people who have met Björn have experienced, I was entranced by his vision.
I went up to him after class and asked how I could get involved. That started my journey with MentorMate. I’ve seen the company grow from one employee/intern/contractor (myself) to now over 275 team members with a world-class reputation for solving problems with technology.
I’ve worked extensively with both our own team members and with our clients over the past 14 years, I want to share some of the opportunities and experiences you should expect from MentorMate.
Always remember, you control your career here. If you know what you want and where you are trying to go, share it. The ability to design your own career is one of the most inspiring parts about working here. This intangible benefit has empowered me throughout my 14 years at the company.

I started at MentorMate by organizing focus groups, then running those focus groups. Next I wrote technical specifications, then project management, then delivery. Finally, I came to lead our Strategy and Innovation effort. Two things made this evolution possible. First, I worked hard and always tried to keep the organization’s needs and interests at heart. Second, I knew what I wanted and shared it openly and freely with others.
